After discussions with Lindsey and Trey Simon, we learned that the NICU nurses encourage reading to the kids. It helps boost brain development, language skills, and strengthens parent-infant bonding, while also reducing stress for both parents and babies – even when they’re tiny. Inside our NERV Haven library we have dedicated a space to store children’s books for Two Blue Butterflies. These popular children’s books are available for our guests to fill with notes of warmth and encouragement for the families with kids in the NICU at Ochsner Baptist, Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge and Manning Family Children’s Hospital in New Orleans (and other hospitals as we get more and more notes and books). Once the inside front and back covers of the books are filled with notes from our guests, and signed with a name and originating city, we send those books to the NICU locations to serve as an inspirational NICU library that parents can choose from. 

We hope that many of our guests feel inspired to write a brief note, a warm thought, or an encouraging quotation so we can fill the NICU spaces with feelings of hope and care, and make the challenging moments for many families, a little easier to handle.
